Did you ever know that there was a “taxi war” that took place in Chicago in the Roaring 20’s?
The market was ripe for the private taxi business, which in the past was only available to the wealthy. With the advent of the auto, the taxi business boomed and in true Chicago fashion corruption and chaos followed. The 2 rival companies, Yellow Cab (headed by John Hertz) and Checker Cab vied for the business and many underhanded events occurred to gain dominance in this field.
It was not uncommon for gun battles, bombs, murder and sabotage to occur in the bid to be #1.
